Igor Gubskiy

Nowadays in museums or simply in high-quality auction collections of the XX or XXI centuries, You can easily discover that art for a long time has existed without a certain thematic and stylistic unity. You can also see that it is already made of everything that can be used as post-media art material and visual techniques. And criticism and provocative statements have become its traditional methods. The current situation also exists in the Ukrainian modern art, thus on this background, Igor Gubsky can be called “out of mainstream” artist or representative of the “old-school”.

Most of the artist’s artworks are portraits. Somehow paradoxically, to this genre Igor Gubskiy remains devoted even nowadays. At the same time, the style of his artworks continues the traditions of the psychological portrait of the “old-school” or classical, pre-avant-garde art.

Igor Gubskiy is the son of the artist Ivan Gubsky. Igor studied in Lugansk State Art School, in Kiev State Art Institute led by V.G. Puzyrkov, in Academy of Arts led by professor S.A. Grigoriev. Now lives in Kiev. Igor Gubskiy is one of the few artists noted by the Tretyakov Art Gallery, as a bright representative of the Ukrainian school in XX century together with Tatyana Yablonskaya and Andriy Kotska.

The artist’s artworks are stored in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, in Tretyakov Art Gallery (Moscow, Russia), in Kunstmuseum (Malmö, Sweden), in Summy Art Museum, in Luhansk Art Museum and private collections in Ukraine, England, Israel, Canada, USA, Sweden.
